Treat the love of your life
Treat the love of your life

Valentine’s Day is associated with cards, chocolates and flowers for our partner, but for many of us, our pets are some of the most loyal and loving companions in our lives. Growing up in a house full of cats, rabbits, fish and a dog, my love of all animals started at an early age. As an adult I have rescued one timid bullied little cat, a worm-ridden puppy, and an unsocialised adolescent bitch; each one with its own special needs has carved a place in my heart. With some love and patience, I have seen the transformation of a scaredy-cat covered in dandruff to a glossy feline ruling the house, a scrawny bag of bones to a solid dog with a full mane, and a dull-coated, undefined bitch to a muscley shiny powerhouse.

This February is the perfect opportunity to show your furry family members a little extra care and attention — not just through treats and toys, but by focusing on their health, comfort and wellbeing. Come and find out about a raw food diet for your pets, either to help with weight management or allergy control, or look into the power of holistic supplements such as Proflax to give your pet a natural boost.

Grooming also plays a vital role in your pet’s overall health and is particularly important during the winter months when cold weather, wet walks and indoor heating can all contribute to matted coats, dry skin and dull fur. Regular brushing helps remove loose hair, dirt and dander, and prevents matts from forming, but also affords special time for you and your dog to bond. However most breeds benefit from a professional full groom, so book a session with The Bath & Bone dog grooming salon next door to Lulu’s Pet Pantry.

Lacie will treat your dog as her own and tailor her approach to your dog’s requirements, whether that’s a deshed, handstrip, tidy up or a short shave off. Watching her wash dogs in specialist shampoo is very therapeutic in itself, but then I have to laugh as both she and the dog don pink ear protectors during drying. As well as washing and cutting your dog’s hair, she cleans the face and ears, clips claws, and can even remove plaque with a powerful sonic toothbrush. With a final spritz of a scent of your choice, your very pampered pooch is ready for collection.

This Valentine’s Day, consider showing your pet how much you love them by investing in their well-being. Just remember that Lillies and other flowers are poisonous to cats, and chocolates are dangerous to both cats and dogs, so please keep your pets safe around the presents you share with your human loved ones. Lulu’s Pet Pantry is here to help you treat your pets and wildlife properly.
